We are Basalt
Basalt is an architecture practice working out of a former net loft on the old harbour in Reykjavík. We design houses, small public buildings and quiet additions to existing ones — places made to stand in wind, salt and the long winter dark. Our palette is short on purpose: cast concrete, local stone, black-stained timber and glass, used plainly. Every project begins on site, walking the ground in different weather and light long before a line is drawn. We believe a building in this landscape should never compete with it, but give the people inside a calm, precise frame from which to watch it change. Twelve people, one long table, no hurry.
