About

Kvöld is the transformation of a former printing workshop in the west of Reykjavík into a family house organised around evening light. The original corrugated shell was kept and clad in black fibre-cement panels, while the interior was cut open with a sequence of skylights placed to catch the long, low sun of late summer evenings. A board-formed concrete stair climbs through the middle of the house, connecting a ground-floor studio with the living spaces above. Built-in furniture in smoked oak lines the walls, leaving the floors empty and calm. From the street the house remains almost silent; only at night does it reveal itself through a single lit slot beneath the roof.
